What is Freight Forwarder?

A freight forwarder is an individual or firm that organizes the shipment of goods from one place to another. They do not own the goods themselves, but they act as a middleman between the shipper and the carrier. Freight forwarders typically offer several services, including:

  • Booking transport via vessel, truck, or aircraft
  • Negotiation of shipment rates
  • Shipment consolidation and deconsolidation
  • Necessary documentation (bill of lading, commercial invoice, and others)
  • Expertise of import and export regulations
  • Acquiring Protection Insurance

A qualified freight forwarding service can often be recommended through a trusted customs broker. Many work closely with one another to help mutual clients have the best shipping experience possible.
