What is Transportation Security Administration (TSA)?

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is a federal agency responsible for the security and safety of the traveling public for all modes of transportation in the U.S.

The TSA’s different duties include:

  • Securing air cargo,
  • Inspecting other modes of transport (rail, maritime, and mass transit)
  • Screening passengers and baggage at airports.

The TSA is a large and complex agency, however, you are more likely to work closely with them if you are exporting goods rather than importing. If you plan on arranging domestic air cargo shipments of imported goods, you should also be keeping up to date on their screening requirements.
