The Customs Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (CTPAT) is a program CBP offers to provide guidance to those in the customs or customs-associated sectors (like warehousing and freight transportation) who wish to strengthen their supply chains against theft and fraud.

Entities who wish to enroll in the program may do so free of any costs directly from CBP. The application process can be done online and requires the company to follow a series of instructions:

  • Review the program’s Minimum Security Criteria (MSC) to determine eligibility
  • Submit an application via the CTPAT portal agreeing to participate voluntarily
  • Complete a supply chain security profile pending the completion of a risk assessment

CBP assigns a Supply Chain Security Specialist to review submitted applications and to offer ongoing guidance to applicants. It can take up to 90 days for the application to be accepted or rejected, with accepted applicants receiving CTPAT validation within a year of being certified by CBP.
