A Port of Entry (PoE) is a place where individuals or goods may legally enter a country. It normally has customs and border security staff and facilities to check passports and visas and to inspect luggage, so no contraband is imported. International airports are usually ports of entry, as are many international road and rail crossings.
In the United States, it’s any place where people arrive in the U.S. from a foreign country. This can include airports, seaports, land border crossings, and even remote areas where people may arrive by boat or plane.
