Tag(s):

What is Standard Carrier Alpha Code (SCAC)?

Within the United States, SCAC codes, sometimes referred to as owner codes, are assigned by the National Motor Freight Traffic Association (NMFTA) to identify transportation companies.

SCAC codes are used in different shipping documents, including bills of lading, manifests, and customs declarations. They are also used by transportation companies to track their shipments.

SCAC codes help to:

  • Identify transportation companies: This is important for customs clearance and for tracking shipments.
  • Automate shipping processes: This can save time and money for businesses.
  • Standardize shipping data: This makes it easier for businesses to share shipping information with each other.

If you’re shipping goods in the United States, knowing the SCAC code of the transportation company that is handling your shipment is a must. It ensures that your shipment is processed correctly.
