What is Turnaround Document (TAD)?

Turnaround Document (TAD) is a document prepared by customs for the bonded carrier, used to control in-bond movements. It’s a useful and common tool in customs clearance in tracking shipments, gathering data, and communicating with customs officials.

TADs normally include:

  • A unique identifier: To track the TAD throughout the customs clearance process.
  • The date and time of the TAD: To track the progress of the customs clearance process.
  • The information collected: The data that is collected from the customs broker.
  • Notes: Any additional information or comments.

Some common examples of TADs in customs are Importer Security Filing (ISF), Customs Form 7501, and Customs Form 2976.

If you’re interested in importing, it’s important to understand and accurately complete a Turnaround Document.
