What is Manifest (Cargo)?

A cargo manifest is a document that lists the goods being shipped on a specific vessel or aircraft. It includes the type, quantity, and the weight of goods. It also includes the consignee and the shipper.

Cargo manifests are important for a number of reasons. They help to ensure that the correct goods are being shipped to the correct destination. They also help to track the movement of goods and to identify any potential problems.

Cargo manifests are required by law in many countries. They are also used by customs officials to assess duties and taxes.

There are two main types of cargo manifests:

  • Master manifest: A comprehensive list of all the cargo being shipped on a vessel or aircraft.
  • Shipped manifest: A list of the cargo that has actually been shipped. It’s usually prepared after the vessel or aircraft has departed.

Cargo manifests contain significant amounts of information. For importers looking to protect the privacy of their suppliers or even carrier partners, this can be a problem. To keep such information private, it's possible to file for manifest confidentiality. This protects your record from those who may want to publish them for the public or as part of a paid subscription service.
